Hocking River Riparian Restoration

Athens County

The Hocking River Riparian Restoration project is a 55-acre site located at the confluence of Sunday Creek and the Hocking River in Dover Township, Athens County, Ohio. More than 1,700 tons of sediment is estimated to be entering the Hocking River from the eroding stream banks where the riparian corridor is insufficient. The main objective of the project is to reduce nonpoint source water quality pollution on Sunday Creek, the Hocking River and downstream by restoring and preserving functional riparian and floodplain habitat. Restoration will see 44 acres of floodplain and 2 acres of wetlands restored with native plants.

Project Size: 54.4 acres
