Woodpecker Ditch – Meachland Wetland Restoration

Project size: 21.5 acres

Project partners: Division of Wildlife

Woodpecker Ditch in Lorain County drains 330-acres of land that is primarily used for agricultural row cropping. The water flows to Buck Creek, which is a tributary of the West Branch of the Black River. The goal of this project is to reduce agricultural runoff via a series of high-quality wetlands cascading through the drainage area. These flow-through wetlands will capture sediment and nutrients and restore hydrology while providing additional habitat for migratory shorebirds and waterfowl.
