Van Order Wetland and Forest Restoration

Project size: 18.5 acres (31 acre property)

Partners: Division of Forestry, Fulton SWCD

The Van Order parcel of land is publicly owned by the Ohio Division of Forestry and is part of Maumee State Forest. About 18.5 acres are considered active farmland, 5 acres of which will be restored to wetlands by means of native seeding of grass and prairie plants. Non-native and invasive plants will also be removed. Native tree plantings will take place on the other 13.5 acres of land. Species will include white oak, red oak, black oak, black cherry, black walnut, hickory, and potentially American chestnut and butternut. By restoring native plants to the land, it will be able to return to the thriving wetland it once was.
