Cuyahoga River Riparian Forest and Wetland Restoration

Project size: 32 acres

Project partners: The Nature Conservancy

This habitat restoration project will improve water quality and enhance floodplain forest and wetland habitats along the mainstem of the Cuyahoga River within the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Summit County. The project will restore 32 acres of riparian habitat and restore and enhance 14 acres of wetland along about 3,800 linear feet within the Cuyahoga River Area of Concern. Enhancement will involve the removal of invasive plant species and the planting of native species. The project will plant 4,800 trees that will capture 95,576 gallons of stormwater per year and prevent runoff of 101 tons of sediments, 128 tons of phosphorus, and 248 pounds of nitrogen per year.
